Military Prayers

Military Prayer List (names of those we know of that are serving in the military)

President Kieschnick's Statement on Peace

A monthly prayer for our military is posted under NEWS on the home page - these prayers are written by military chaplains in the Northwest District.

PRAYER FOR PEACE:

Most gracious and merciful God, you hold all the power and might of this world in your hands, raising up rulers to govern the people in every land.

Watch over this nation, its rulers, and all our people. Give wisdom to our President and all his advisers, to the members of Congress and to all who serve to execute justice in our land.

Guard and defend our soldiers whose lives are in peril. Give them courage as they enter into battle and comfort them through your Word with the good news of forgiveness, life and salvation through your Son.

Grant wisdom to our military commanders, that their plans may lead to a swift conclusion to this conflict with a minimum of casualties.

Comfort the families of our soldiers who have been killed, wounded or taken prisoner. Give them lasting peace as they are reminded that you will never leave them nor forsake them.

Watch over as well the civilians in Iraq. Enable us to provide for their physical needs, that they may dwell in peace and safety. Grant us opportunities to bring the saving news of Jesus Christ to their country so that they may know the ultimate peace of sins forgiven by the blood of Christ.

Hear us for the sake of your dear Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

OTHER PRAYERS (From Lutheran Worship p. 130)

For the Armed Forces of Our Nation

Lord God of hosts, stretch forth your almighty arm to strengthen and protect those who serve in the armed forces of our country.  Support them in times of war, and in times of peace keep them from all evil, giving them courage and loyalty and granting that in all things they may serve honestly and without reproach,; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

For Those Who Minister in the Armed Forces

O Lord, Almighty God, as you have always granted singular gifts of the Holy Spirit to your Church on earth, grant your special blessing, we pray, to all who minister in your name in the armed forces that by your gracious working they may honor Christ and advance the good of those committed to their care; through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
