The Northwest District is blessed with congregations who have engaged college students in active ministry. Please keep these faithful ministries in your daily prayers:
“The University of Oregon is a fitting centerpiece to Eugene, OR, a city known as much for its war protests and crowded street fairs as it is for its pursuit of higher education. The opposition to faith, isn’t so much suffocating as it is subtle and frustrating. But this is precisely why seeing God’s work continue in the hearts of so many students here at the University of Oregon and Lane Community College is so astounding." We have organized a Sunday evening soup supper (5 pm) followed by a Vespers devotional led by our vacancy pastor, Joel Nickel. Our email mailing list includes about 80 students.
LSF (Lutheran Student Fellowship), meets each Tuesday evening for singing, devotions, prayer and a free dinner, funded by the ministry and prepared by students. Presently, approximately 40 students attend the weekly gatherings. The group travels twice yearly to take weekend retreats. They are active in service to the congregation. Fellowship activities are common. The LSF ministry is not just a string of activities. It is a home-away-from-home where students can come to find friends who share their faith and values, sort out the dilemmas that accompany this stage of life, and understand the significance of a true church family.

Statement of Impact: "I participate at Chapel on the Ave because it provides me with necessary balance. If I'm expected to change the world when I graduate, I need to find purpose on a spiritual level. This helps me expand the way I relate to the world. God is in my life and there are not a lot of reminders of this on campus." (Undergraduate student, 2010)
Our campus ministry in conjunction with Southern Oregon University is a developing effort. In Fall of 2009 we became a new official student club on the university campus. Our Lutheran Student Association provides Christian students the opportunity to engage in faith based activities on campus. We respectfully welcome the person who is investigating matters of the Christian Faith. LSA works toward interfacing with other Christian organizations on the campus.
The web site www.lcmscampusministry.org/StudentConnect.php
is the national matching tool for students, families, DCE's, youth leaders, etc., looking for a campus ministry group on any college or university campus. It really works! The national campus ministry website is full of helpful resources.
