HOW YOU CAN HELP . . .

• Pray for God's blessings on our efforts
  Remember, support and pray for military chaplains and members in uniform by posting pictures, addresses and news about them; or send e-mail, letters, cards, church bulletins, newsletters and care packages to them regularly (it is helpful to send them through family members in your congregation, since mail is filtered).  See above information on tips for sending mail.
   
• Two prayer books which the Task Force recommends are:
  Promises and Prayers for You in the Military
  Praying for Those we Love as they Serve Our Country
   
• Reach out to a specific military unit
  Would your congregation consider reaching out to a specific military unit through prayer support, spiritual encouragement and mail from home, including delicious treats? Perhaps a unit in which a church member currently serves? If interested in supporting the Ministry to the Armed Forces in this way, please contact lcmschaps@lcms.org or call 1-800-433-3954, Ext. 1337. 

  US Troop Care Package - send a package to a deployed soldier

  Adopt a Soldier - helping those who desire to support the wounded, injured, and ill troops at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Bethesda Naval Hospital.

• Did you know that Ministry to the Armed Forces has provided Lutherans in uniform with a spiritual lifeline since World War II through its Ministry by Mail program? The LCMS is the only denomination to support its members in such a direct way! Those who have their address registered receive an initial package of spiritual aids. They also receive The Lutheran Witness each month with a special Armed Forces supplement and the quarterly Portals of Prayer devotional booklet. The cost for these materials, including postage, is $8.25 per person annually.

  There are now about 5,400 names on this mailing list, but the estimated number of LCMS members serving on active duty is 15,000. Please report addresses to the Ministry by Mail program at lcmschaps@lcms.org or call 1-800-433-3954, Ext. 1337.
