Sad News
Mr. William "Bill" Brackman, a member at Lutheran Church of St. Paul, Graham, Washington, and a delegate to the 62nd District Convention, Portland, Oregon, slipped and fell on Thursday, June 18, 2009, at the Oregon Convention Center hitting his head on the floor. Emergency services were called and Bill was transported to Emanuel Hospital for medical attention. As the prayers of the entire convention gathering surrounded Bill and his family, Bill remained in ICU and his condition did not improve. Pastors Gary Clark and John Biermann also were on hand at the hospital to pray with and support the family. On Friday afternoon, June 19, Bill peacefully entered his heavenly home with his family by his side.
Graveside services for family members will be held on Friday, June 26, 2009. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at 1:00 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 720 W. Main Street, Puyallup, WA with Pastor Gary Clark officiating.
The prayers of delegates and District staff will continue to surround the family of Bill as God walks beside them in their sadness and provides the strength they need to get through the days ahead. As you lean on God for that strength, we pray that the Brackman family will remember Psalm 84:5 - "What joy for those whose strength comes from the Lord."
May the Peace that Jesus brings be with you all!
A PRAYER SHAWL - A VISIBLE REMINDER OF “THE SPIRIT GIVES LIFE”
A prayer shawl was dedicated by the Convention Chaplain
during the final prayer on Saturday, Cheryl Ramirez, creator of the prayer
shawl shared with the attendees how God had provided for each detail of the
circumstances surrounding the shawl and its recipient – the family of the
delegate who died following a fall at the Convention Center’s front door…
Cheryl had come to the Northwest District Convention as
a volunteer for one day. She was not sure what exactly to expect but she was
certain that God had called her there to be in the Prayer Tent area. This
area was dedicated for those who desired to lift prayer requests received
from convention attendees and exhibitors; join in corporate prayer; be
prayed over; or to reflect and meditate in a quiet place.
