A testimony from Kelsea Miller, a Servant
at the recent Sporting, Soaring and Scoring Soccer Camp outreach event!
This week has been an amazing week. Not only were we serving God through the
Sporting Soaring and Scoring Soccer Clinic, but we also served Him by serving
the entire community through various servant events. My favorite servant event
was the party at Huntington Terrace; a retirement center where I had the
opportunity to have dessert and conversation with none other than Mr. And Mrs.
Huntington Terrace, and the 1946 Rose Festival Queen, Billie.
In the short hour I spent talking with Billie I heard
stories from her life and learned very quickly that she is a woman whose faith
has moved mountains, and that her sense of humor isn’t lacking. She has God on
her side and there is nothing the world can do to take that from her.
My favorite story of the ones that she told me is about
faith. Billie was diagnosed with a deadly condition; the doctor gave her seven
days to live. On day five, her daughter came and said “Mom, you have two days
left”. Billlie’s response was “Well, give me a minute by myself”. And so her
daughter stepped out of the room. Then Billie prayed “God, if you can’t have
this disease, than neither can I because I am your reflection.” That happened
two and a half years ago.
That was Billie’s reflection on her life. Every day this
week we had a ‘reflection time’ in the evening for each day, and my talk with
Billie was the most meaningful of those to me. It made me want to take to heart
our group’s theme, “Servant Extreme”. Our lives should be lived by reflecting
Christ.
And one more thing about Billie--She has undertaken a
wonderful ministry involving pins and prayer. She buys angel pins, gives them
to people, and then writes down the name of each person who receives one so that
she can pray for them every night. Please bow your heads and pray along with me
as I pray her prayer: “I am the place where God shines through for God and I are
one, not two. God wants me where and as I am. I need not will, nor fret, nor
plan. And if I be relaxed and free, God will work His plan through me.”
