The church’s greatest deficiency today is in power – not in programs, strategies, materials, or ideas. And power for ministry is released through prayer and continues with prayer. Whenever God sets about to do something, He sets His people praying. Every aspect of a Christian’s life and mission must be bathed in prayer for power and effective-ness. In His divine sovereignty, God has determined to act in response to prayer. God wants to be asked, not because He needs convincing, but because this is the way He has chosen to exercise His power.
Without God’s power we can do nothing.
Jesus repeatedly emphasized the importance of prayer.
Prayer clearly had a high priority in His life. He was concerned that His disciples realized that they could be the church and would build the church when they relied on and were strengthen by His empowering hand. It is not possible to explain the power and effectiveness of the New Testament church without reference to prayer. Ministry without prayer is powerless and ineffective.
God’s command and promises are our motives for prayer, and prayer is faith’s obedience to the will of God. Thus, prayer must have a high priority in the church’s life and ministry. Many believe that prayer is the most important work in the kingdom of God.
