 A DCE’s first Mission Trip

In reflection of this past year, I can only marvel at Gods consistent perseverance in my life. I started this year with many dreams of establishing my ministry at the location of my first call. Yet through a series of circumstances I was forced to trust God and His wisdom; to rely on Him to find a new calling for me. Through a very trying six month period, I learned patience, and was also challenged to grow and mature. Through this maturation I was soon to realize the magnitude of Gods unfailing and unconditional love!

 Enough rambling about my trails and tribulation. Allow me to share with you the most unique opportunity presented to me later during the summer.

I answered Gods call by accepting the position of Youth and Family minister at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, Oregon. Sent off with the blessings of friends from Sandpoint Idaho, where we were then located, my family and I traveled to Hillsboro to restart our lives back home in Oregon. My wife was born in the Eugene area. We met while both attending school at Concordia Portland so, this was in many ways a homecoming!

When barely at the doorsteps of Trinity, I was asked by Pastor Bruce to accompany him and 28 other folks on a mission trip to Canada for 12 days, which was to leave in five days! With great excitement I considered this for about 5 seconds and turned to see if this was okay with my wife who was trying to control my 4 year old and 18 month old sons from running wild in this new church building. She probably saw the gleam in my eyes and immediately gave me her blessing and support on this endeavor.  Click here for the rest of the story!
